| Bio: | Name: Sohma Momiji Series: Fruits Basket (manga continuity) Age: 16 Gender: Male Sexuality: Bi Abilities: Turns into a rabbit when hugged by the opposite gender or is physically weak (EG, when very sick) Personality: Momiji is probably the single most cheerful person that most people will meet in their entire lives. He's bubbly, energetic, fun-loving, optimistic, and possesses such a child-like disposition and outlook on the world that he's usually seen hanging around with the younger children and (also due to his very child-like appearance) is often mistaken for one. His everyday outlook on life, however, belies a dark and tragic past that he confronts daily. But however sad remembering his circumstances makes him, Momiji is still ever optimistic. He perseveres in the face of his own sadness, working his way past it, knowing that he can't change things that have happened in the past and wishing only for the people he cares about to be happy. Being quite flamboyant himself in both his mannerisms, dress, and overall personality, and because of his curse, Momiji is commonly the focus of prejudice from both the family members that know of the curse and the people that think his mannerisms are improper for a young boy, especially of his age. Depending on the exact situation, Momiji's reactions to these hostilities can range anywhere from a hurt child not understanding why they're being scolded and breaking down crying, to quiet acceptance. He's a very loving boy, despite all of these hardships, and believes in the innate goodness in everyone. Even among the other Jyuunishi, where The Cat is looked down upon by the entire Sohma family, Momiji openly declares his fondness for him; where the other jyuunishi are resentful or afraid of Akito, the head of the family, Momiji feels only a sympathy towards him for whatever it was that he'd gone through to make him so angry and violent. Though none of this overrides the curse, the vengeful spirit of The Rabbit inside of him and compels him to obey Akito, no matter how outrageous the demand may be or how violent the family head may become. However, Momiji is also one of the few really willing to stand up to Akito when he knows what the family head is doing is wrong. He's a very intuitive person and sometimes tends to know his friends and family and what they really need better than they know themselves, which sometimes gets him into trouble when he starts crossing a line. But through all of this, Momiji's smile rarely wavers, because he knows that no matter what memories he may gain out of any experience, they will all be important in forming the man he will become in the future and, while they may hurt now, he looks forward to the day when he can look back on his memories and not be so sad. Background: Momiji was born to one of the richest members of the Sohma family and his German wife whom he married after meeting her in college. Of course it was immediately realized that he was a member of the Jyuunishi when he was held by his mother for the first time and he changed into an adorable little baby rabbit. This singular event changed what would have been his life forever. In his early years, Momiji traveled with his family between Japan and Germany, making him fluent in both languages (he often throws German words into his Japanese speech either to be cute or because he just doesn't know a better way to say it in Japanese). However, while her husband was doing his business, Momiji's mother was busy trying to psychologically cope with the knowledge that she had brought, what is considered by the entire Sohma family to be, a monster into the world as well as not even being able to hold her only child. Momiji was unaware of just how poorly this affected her health until years later when he looked back on the series of events, but around the time he was six years old, his father came to him in desperation. He explained to Momiji that his mother was very sick and that the only way that she would get better was to undergo a procedure that fellow Sohma and Jyuunishi, Doctor Sohma Hatori (The Dragon), only could perform that would erase Momiji from her memories. He coaxed the young boy by asking him that he wanted his mother to be well again, didn't he? And he told him that he would love Momiji enough for the both of them, but this was the only way that she would be able to survive. Of course being a child, Momiji didn't really understand what was going on, only that his mother apparently wanted to forget him so in his curiosity, he followed his mother to Hatori's home and office the day of her appointment. He overheard Hatori asking her if she was certain that she wanted to forget him, making sure that she wouldn't regret it. All his mother could say was that the only thing she regretted was that that monster, Momiji, had come from her body. And Momiji watched from the doorway as he was wiped from her memories. He wasn't discovered until later, still in too much shock and not quite understand to really respond to what had happened and what he had seen and heard. Because, however, his father had chosen to stay with his wife and it would hardly make sense for Momiji to stay with them when they'd gone through the trouble of erasing him from his mother's memories, it was eventually decided that Momiji would stay at the main house, watched over by Hatori and the other servants that worked for the Sohmas. Momiji had come a long way from that night with his mother and Hatori by the time he'd first met Honda Tohru, visiting his father in the building he owned and that Tohru just so happened to work in; and so had his mother and father. About two years after that night, they had another child, a little girl named Momo that was practically the spitting image of her older brother except that she wasn't a Jyuunishi. Momiji had watched over them from afar over the years, keeping pictures of them on him at all times, keeping his family near him that way. Despite his father's attempt to keep them apart, however, Momo had been gifted with her older brother's curiosity and she saw him playing the violin and was so compelled by his music that she went to her father and begged to get lessons so that one day she could play with him. Momiji had been taking lessons with a famous instructor since his childhood, his dream to one day become a professional violinist and hold a small concert for his estranged family; but due to his sister's new interest, and because Momiji's father wished her to only have the best, he came to Momiji and asked him to quit taking lessons, a request that he, of course, couldn't refuse. He still practiced on his own, however, and it was Tohru that came to him one day while he was practicing and told him, after having met and spoken to little Momo, that the reason she wanted to play was so that she could play with him someday. Momiji was so happy he was brought to tears because all he really wanted was to have his family back. Tohru had come that day on a mission for one of her friends to give a message to another Jyuunishi, Kureno. In thanks for the hope she'd just given him (and because she was his friend and he loved her), Momiji gave her directions to Kureno's and told her to just mention his name if she was caught by anyone that wasn't Kureno. That was when the Tuatha Dé Dèidh contacted him. They offered him one wish and, violin in hand, Momiji smiled and told them that, someday, he would like the Jyuunishi's curse to be lifted. So that he could someday embrace his mother and sister. Room: West Wing, Room 003 | |||||||||
